Sergey Harutyunyants Background and Education

Sergey practices in a wide range of civil litigation and transactional matters. In litigation, his practice is primarily centered around helping clients resolve contract disputes, partnership disputes, real estate disputes, and employment disputes. In transactional matters, he assists with business formation and drafting various types of contracts, including purchase agreements, promissory notes, operating agreements, and employment contracts.

Sergey was born in Mineralnye Vody, Russia and moved to Armenia at the age of one. He grew up in a little village in the south of Armenia and later moved to Yerevan (the capital) at the age of seven, where he lived for the next 15 years. Sergey came to the United States in 2014. He attended the University of Arizona in Tucson and graduated summa cum laude with a BA in Political Science and a BA in Law. After that, Sergey moved to Boston, Massachusetts, and completed his first year of law school at New England Law School. He then transferred to the Sandra Day O’Connor College of Law at Arizona State University, where he earned his juris doctor degree.

While in Law School, Sergey gained experience in courtroom and litigation through various clinics and externships. He was a crucial member of a team that presented a case in front of the Arizona Supreme Court in the case of Morgan v. Dickerson in & for Cnty. of Cochise, 253 Ariz. 207, 511 P.3d 202 (2022). Sergey also participated in a prosecution clinic where he interacted with judges, lawyers, and other professionals in the courtroom while helping to prosecute individuals charged with various crimes in the City of Scottsdale. Additionally, Sergey interned for the City of Tempe where he helped attorneys with various civil litigation matters. His exceptional trial advocacy, brief writing, and oral advocacy skills led to his selection for the Order of Barristers and the attainment of a trial advocacy certificate from his law school.

After graduating from law school, Sergey came to Denton Peterson Dunn, where he worked as a clerk until his admission to the Arizona State Bar.

In addition to his legal work, Sergey is passionate about volunteering for various organizations, including the International Rescue Committee, the Permanent Mission of Armenia to the United Nations, the Arizona Legal Center, and others. He was awarded the highest pro bono award with distinction from his law school for his volunteer work. Sergey is also multilingual, with English being his third language after Armenian and Russian. In his free time, he enjoys participating in sports such as soccer, rowing, and various combat sports.
